Welcome to the BIG CONVERSION OF THIS WEB SITE!
For reasons cited below, instead of reviews of new releases I’ll now be celebrating new DVD rentals and HARDLY KNOWN fun and fascinating films
of my nearly 40 YEARS of reviewing.              Thank you for your visit!

  Hi, I'm Marty. . .
I’m the former 39-year newspaper-published films critic, 30 of those years with the New England Award-winning Maine Sunday Telegram, plus two more years on this website, having seen over 5000 new broad-release movies since 1972.

But I’ve relocated, for the near future, to a remote cabin home in Maine. It is beyond access to mainstream cinemas and movie viewings. Therefore I’ve elected, for now, in this my 39th year in professional film reviewing, to change my coverage from new broad releases to NEW DVD RENTAL RELEASES and BRIEF REVIEWS OF FASCINATING FIRST-RATE MOVIES SINCE 1972 which, because of low publicity budgets, were hardly ever heard of.

Marty's Criteria

What makes a film quality entertainment?
A good story?  Uh, uh. No more so than you care about the reply when you’re introduced to a new person and you ask, “What do you do?” In a minute you realize that really what you’re looking for in a new person is an appealing personality. So, in a film, you’re really looking for its “personality,” communication at your deep, meaningful levels of consciousness. In a well-designed movie that means integrated action, suspense, acting from the inside and settings artistry. At the deeper levels of mind and spirit, we respond to the audio and visual energy of smart dynamic film technique and atmosphere, whether fast-paced or deliberative -- DELIVERY!  If it all works for you, you’ve got something to take away! It was entertaining. You have grown. I’ll tell you about the plot, of course, and in the way I tell it, you’ll sense my estimate of the film.

Will I return again to regular weekly film reviews of new mainstream broad releases?  Hard to say, a real possibility since I’ve loved doing it. Meantime, with my preliminary research into 1970s through 2008 films which are indelible in my memory for their strong entertainment value while getting little publicity at the time, I’m more and more enthused about telling you about them. Also, of course, I’ll review DVDs of recent films, these both good and bad.
